Waterloo LV Switch Room



Introduction

 

We were given the task to complete the electrical installation for 2 new panel boards to supply the essential & non-essential distribution boards for the show area, show control rooms, bar area, restaurant kitchen, toilets, plant room & staff changing area. The client wanted us to use Schneider panel boards & Schneider Acti9 Distribution boards.

Client Brief

Our client Dollman Ralston instructed us to complete the design & installation of the electrical switch room. The existing switch room was under a permit to work scheme & we had to sign the key out/in daily.

Project Delivery

  • 2no Schneider panel boards were installed on unistruts bolted to the wall.
  • 300x300mm galvanized trunking was installed underneath both panel boards to house the single core supply cables & for us to gland off all the outgoing SWA supply cables.
  • 300mm galvanized tray was bolted to the walls so we could bring the outgoing SWA supply cables down to the trunking.
  • A 400amp switch fused isolator Glasgow was installed next to panel board 1 with 300mm singles feeding out the isolator to the panel board.
  • A 630amp switch fused isolator Glasgow was installed next to panel board 2 with 400mm singles feeding out the isolator to the panel board.
  • 900mm heavy duty ladder rack was installed from the ceiling to provide the outgoing cables a containment route to their destinations. This was suspended from the ceiling using threaded rods and unistruts.
  • All cable terminations were torqued to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • 2 new LV panel switch isolators were installed into the spare spaces inside the existing 1600amp LV switch panel. 1no 400amp switch & 1no 630amp switch.
  • A new sub main cable 185mm 4core was terminated into the 400amp LV switch panel to feed panel board 2 (non-essential supplies).
  • 2no 150mm 4 core SWAs wired in parallel were terminated into the 630amp LV switch panel to feed panel board 1 (essential supplies).
  • All outgoing SWAs & earth cables from both panel boards were terminated into 3 phase distribution boards located in server rooms, plant rooms & kitchen area.
