Network Rail – LCS Units (NSCD)

Introduction
The Negative Short Circuit Device (NSCD) provides a short-circuit path between the DC Traction Supply and the Negative Return to protect against the inadvertent re-energisation of the circuit. The NSCD can be operated remotely via a SCADA Interface, locally via a Local Control Panel and at the NSCD itself for maintenance. LCS units are an IP rated cabinet and are normally used for outside purposes. We have installed these across many sites while working with Bam Nuttall.
LCS Switchgear
NSCD L.C Switchgear is an IP56 GRP cabinet. They are normally installed externally at either a Substations or T.P Hut’s. It is then the site install team’s task to complete the containment routes, 750v cabling, small power, control, and indication wiring.
Project Delivery
• New NSCD switchgear was installed across multiple sites. This included modular sites, LCS switchgear sites and HSS switchgear sites.
• Installation of DC distribution boards, 50V DC battery chargers and outgoing 50V DC supplies.

• installation of marshalling cabinets, inhibit panels.
•installation of CMS. GRP ladder rack and tray, trunking, conduit, and tray work.
